To distract myself from the "No news is good news" b.s.

*Chick's phone rings*

*Chick does not recognize the number, but answers anyway, since it's local*

Chick: Hello?

Lady: Hello, Ms. MyLastName? This is Nurse Hatchett (not really).

Chick: Yes?

Nurse H: From Boy Child's school?

Chick: Oh! Yes! Is something wrong?

Nurse H: Well, apparently Boy Child somehow hit his head on a desk.

Chick: On a desk.

Nurse H: Well, yes. We're still not really sure how it happened.

Chick: The Boy hit his head, on a DESK?

Nurse H: Yes.

Chick: Sadly, that boy has the grace of a plane crash.

Nurse H, giggling somewhat apprehensively: Well, um. I sent home a form which will give you the worst case scenario.

Chick: Which is?

Nurse H: Well, if he started behaving oddly. Starts acting strangely, you know.

Chick: He's a 9 year old boy, how will I know the difference?

*Silence.*

Nurse H: Well, he seems okay. We sent him back to class.

Chick: Yeah. Okay. Thanks for letting me know.

At least school picture day was YESTERDAY.

I love it when kids give us blogging material...:). I am sure you will let us know if he acts "weirdly"!

So techinically large goose eggs on children's heads from collisions with desk are not funny, but I am laughing. Why? The nurse. You know they half expect the parents to go apeshit when they call to report something like this. I think they don't know how to handle the parents that have the ability to laugh at their less than graceful children. Emmi has a perma-bruise on her forehead from the many times she knocks herself over the head. I speak with the nurse often.

I would be worried if he starts acting normal.

See. Leave it to the Boy Child to give you fodder when you need a bit of levity.

As soon as i read, "if he starts acting strangely," I thought the same thing you said! Seriously, how would you know? I hope you get the call so SOON!

I would be alarmed if he acted normal too. Normal at my house? What's that?

Ha, a desk? Please find out how that happened and share, would ya?

Wow. What an informative nurse. "Well, I sent him back to class, no big."

Hey Go read my post about having to go and buy jock straps for the boys. Now that's a distraction.

I have been getting calls from the school secretary periodically this year because my first grade son keeps having little missteps in the bathroom. If he thinks that there is even the remotest chance that a mist of urine touched his clothing he needs a new set.

Thank God I am usually prepared with clean uniforms and we only live a couple blocks away.

She called to suggest that he hit his head hard enough that there could be odd behavior as a result, but she sent him back to class? I was the kid who always went to the nurse with scraped up knees from the playground. Ouch.

Your family makes me smile. Constantly.

Nicholas' nurse has me on speed dial, last week he got a rug burn...on his forehead! I asked him how he did this, he said "I was just rubbing my head on the carpet." like it is totally normal. I swear we don't do that at home.

BandK said...

No, what's not normal is me obsessively checking your blog every five minutes to see if there is any "news." The only thing more agonizing than waiting for the phone to ring with a job offer (or the other thing that shall-not-be-named) is -- oh wait, there is nothing more agonzing!!!

My prayers are with you, my fingers and toes are crossed, that the phone call you get will be the right answer.

As a teacher, I can easily guess.... leaning back on two chair legs.... OMG, I can't COUNT the number of times I tell them to NOT do that or they will be standing, as I'd rather them stand than end up hitting their head on a desk, the wall or the floor!

As for the rubbing the forehead on the carpet, that's a new one! LOL!!!!

Hope you get some news REALLY soon, Chick.. the BEST of news, and that Boy Child remains... um... the opposite of normal? ;)

I know exactly how that goes... I got a call from the school nurse a couple of months ago about my first grader.

Nurse "Monkey is ok. I just wanted you to know he has a pretty pig bruise on his forehead."

Me "Oh really? What happened?"

Nurse "He just ran into a wall and knocked himself over."

What counts as strange behavior for a nine-year-old boy? A lack of interest in Yu-Gi-Oh?

LMAO. Hilarious. Did you read my blog about "that dreaded questions".

I can't wait till my kids get to be around the age of your kids :) Sounds like a great time!
