Arsonophobia

There are very few things in this world that honestly, really scare me.

There are birds. I’m terrified of birds, always have been. I have no idea why. They appear harmless. I think it’s all the flapping. And the possibility they might come over and peck me.

I’m afraid of being broke and/or in debt. That terrifies me. Probably because I was both when my children were really small and I was just so afraid I would never find my way out of that. I never, ever want to be there again.

Other than that, almost nothing.

But this?

I saw that this morning as I was driving to work. And it made me cry. Literally cry. Because it was so. freaking. scary.

We went outside this morning and the smoke was thick in the air. At the children’s school it looked like a mushroom cloud of smoke over the building. When I drove onto the exit ramp (cloverleaf) onto the Highway it was right in front of me. It was really, truly shocking.

I hate fire. I think if I’m going to be afraid of something, this is a good thing to be afraid of.

I would have cried as well. What happened??

I am afraid of birds. Especially since I have been pooped on in Disney World of all places by one.

That is so sad.
Am I understanding this right? Is that the kids' school?

Oh no, it's not the school thank God. It's a warehouse about 8 miles from the school. The smoke could be seen from miles and miles away.

That's so strange! Last night, a house in a town about 30 miles from my neck of the woods burned to the ground!

I'm petrified of fires, too. Not birds though. I have more of an issue with.....bees. It's called apiphobia. Crippling. Debilitating. Fear. Apparently, it's genetic.

I'm terrified of fires too. I worry that if it happened in our house would I be able to find all the photos to get them out? My friend was terribly scared in a fire when she was 4, from her knees right up to her chin. She is the reason I can not, at 33 years of age, light a lighter. Oddly enough, she is a smoker, married to a smoker and there are always lighters lying around her house. A house with a 3 year old girl who gets into everything. One day I'm sure the same will happen.

OMG I am terrified of birds too!!! And bugs. But, yeah, I am scared of fire, mostly because there is no warning really and it can be caused by something that you don't even know about, like faulty wiring.

I live in an apartment so what if one of my neighbors does something stupid and MY apartment catches fire. That scares me.

Wow. Before you and Rachel, I had never met anyone else who was afraid of birds. Finally, I have someone to talk to!
