For the good of...well, something.

When did I become so jaded?

Last night I sat through a meeting during which I alternately wanted to laugh out loud and bitchslap someone.

Ten years ago, I could have sat through that meeting and felt rejuvenated. I would have felt important and powerful, and like a part of something.

And now? It all sounds like advanced BS and flat-out lies.

I'm bothered. It's frustrating.

What's most frustrating for me in all this is that, in admitting that this is all advanced BS I lose this big part of myself. The part that really believes that people want to do the right things and really care about the welfare of others. That people in a position of power and authority who CAN make a difference really WANT to and WILL make a difference.

It's sad really. Everyone sat there and listened to all the big plans and the exciting changes and they nodded their heads and smiled and I kept thinking,

Why isn't anyone saying the truth?

I am right there with you. I don't work but I run into the same thing in the church that I attend. Leadership so often will not say what needs to be said for fear of making someone feel bad or upsetting someone. And it makes me so mad and want to run screaming from the building.

It sounds like these people don't have their hearts in the right place...

but that doesn't mean we all don't.

I work with the most incredible group for my charity--- they all give so very much of their time, money and resources.

There are still some good people left.

I think we just got older, wiser and smarter, because I feel the same way.

kind of like how I felt watching those oil executives in front of congress whining about costs while raking in BILLIONS! Um, I'm not THAT dumb.

I don't think you are jaded. Just honest. And realistic. Ten years ago, you were still coming of age and reveling in being adult and what that means. Finding who you are. And time has taught you to be wiser. Be grateful for that, you know what's up. Take it all with a grain of salt, do what you can do, and just be happy with that. People are frustrating... don't let them bring you down.

Ha! I am turning into that same jaded woman that you are. I have been at my current job for 6 1/2 years and I love working here. Our company was bought out back in November and we were all told, "Don't worry... everything is going to stay the same." Come to find out I will be losing my job that I love more than anything. I am learning that what they say is not always what they do. Bastards!

I've noticed myself getting more jaded, or as I've put it in the past "harder" the older I've gotten. It's kind of sad in some ways, but also more realistic in others I suppose.

Just found your blog today and have signed up for the feed ;)

I agree with CPA Mom and the Oil CEO's....
Get a life people...Oh wait...you already have one! Us poor people are the ones who need to get a life but can't afford it! I think it SUCKS! I can't bitch to much...if it's been 3 years for you not getting a raise...it's only been 13 months for me! We said when GAS goes up to $4 we are going in the "HEAD MAN'S" office and asking for a raise!

That's the way of the world. It's not nice, but it's business. It sucks.

Call it jaded. Call it not being naive anymore. The hypocrisy of some people/companies is kind of galling, isn't it?

I am so right there with you. My company spouts this too.

I used to believe it too, now I don't.

I don't think you are jaded, I think you are realistic. In our economy now, companies KNOW that more money is needed and yet, they don't want to pay their employess more.

holy crap.. the same thing is happening with my job. we're "restructuring" different departments to "better" the company so we have more business which means more money for everyone. HA! Bologna!! they are restructuring to get them big companies... to make more money for THEMSELVES... and screw the rest of their employees over. AGH! i am just going along with the changes - what can ya do when you need the job. especially with gas going up up up!? i wore the rose colored glasses for a long time when i worked in the office at my job.... then i moved out to shipping and receiving - which meant more involvement with the shop... and i really realized how much my employers liked to "do" for themselves - by making people work like MAD... and get paid $9 an hour. wellllll... at least its the weekend, right?

I call it being intelligent myself, and good for you that your BS meter works! Maybe it is a little jaded, but still...I'd rather know when I'm being fed a line.

I just read through at least 15 really crappy blogs. Yours is the first one that is written well and didn't suck. Thank you for that. Don't you think bloggers should have to pass a remedial grammar, spelling and punctuation test before they are allowed to publish their first post? I do.

Oh babe, you're just too smart to have worked there as long as you have and NOT see through the absolute bull-freakin'-lip-service crap of you-know-who. That doesn't make you jaded. You're just perceptive.

I don't get the B.S. factor. Just be honest people! I'll respect you more if you are just honest. It's like celebrities who endorse charities, but then don't show up to the main gala because they were too busy partying. Ugh. If you didn't care, then don't put your name behind it.

btw-thanks for stopping at my blog. I didn't mean to guilt trip you into it yesterday. seriously.

Don't think of it as jaded; you're just good at translating corporate doublespeak!

Also, most people are stupid and/or selfish. Especially bosses. :/

And the less you get yourself all worked up about something, the less you'll be disappointed when it doesn't happen. (Hm. That sounds a lot like pessimism. That must be just me. :D)

Also, wow, thanks for the comments yesterday, I felt honored, like the popular girl saying hi! so thanks! :D

I think Enron said they cared about their people too, didn't they?

After my Dad died, I discovered we owned Enron stock. Great.

I really don't like the disillusionment that comes with seeing through the BS. It is the opposite of motivating. I now just try to keep slogging through and try not to cause those behind me to become jaded too early...

If I didn't know you better, I would swear that you were at Mark's work. Hmmmmm. (And sadly, he works for members of my family. . )

You're only human! We ALL used to believe the hype!! Sad, isn't it?

I don't think it's becoming jaded, I think it's more that we've grown up and been around the business world long enough to see what was going on and how exactly things work in the business world.

It no longer works on smart people.

I agree with Kimberely, I call it not being naive anymore. Most companies have no customer service anymore. I'm sick of calling them and being connected to someone in India that yells at me.

BTW, since I'm totally gonna leave you comments from now on....I just have to tell you, I told a man at Circuit City that he blew goats.

Thank you so much for that phrase. Because, he totally did!!
Of course, my mom looked a little puzzled....LOL
