I told my best gfriends last night that I couldn't imagine anything sweeter than the Boy and the Girl Child when they are going to bed at night. Our bedtime routine is as follows:
1) Hug and kiss mom
2) Hug each other and wish each other a Good-night
3) Hug the dog and wish her a Good-night
4) Hug daddy, if he's home
5) Hug mom again
My favorite part? Is #2. I've always believed it's the sweetest thing ever. Girl Child always calls Boy Child his nickname, which is what she called him when they were little-bitties.
I was wrong, though, about it being the sweetest thing ever.
Because today? I got a call from the school telling me I had to pick up Girl Child immediately. She had a temperature of 102.6. When I arrived they told me how very many students had been dismissed today and several students were sitting in the office, looking miserable and forlorn.
Girl Child? Has the flu. A big mamba-jamba case of it.
I went back to the school at the normal time to pick up the Boy Child. He bounded down the hill to the parking lot and gleefully jumped in the car and said,
"Where's Girl Child?"
I told him she was at home, sleeping. We live only a few miles from the school and Girl and Boy Child are at the age now that they are okay to be home alone for a short while. I told Boy Child that his sister had the flu and his deeply tan little face went white. He had heard all about the flu...he can't help it what with Jason's obsession with the news.
He touched my arm. "You have to tell me...will she be okay?"
I assured him she would be okay. That she needs fluids and rest and motrin but that she'll be okay.
"She won't die?" he asked.
I told him she wouldn't.
"Good," he told me. "I could never live without Girl Child."
I told him I couldn't imagine I could live without her either.
We drove the short distance home (he did tell me, in the car that he felt "Fit as a Fiddle") and he bounded up the porch steps and told me, "I'll go check on my sister."
He went to her room, respectfully knocking on her door before he went in. He came in and told her all about his day and what happened at school. He asked if she felt okay and got her a glass of water. He sat next to her and is sitting next to her, on the floor amid all her stuffed animals. Watching a DVD.
I love how he cares so much about her. I don't know if it's a twin thing or what. All I know is that it's a very, very good thing.

Awww...that is so sweet! You are lucky to have kids who love one another so much. I wish I could say the same. Though I do have to say they were all very good to Saoirse when she was in the hospital. Now if only I could get them to practice it more often!
As my Dad told you just today, you have two super special children. Love 'um!
Allison
Like what Emma said. I hope they are always love each other as much as this day
That is so sweet, I love it when mine are sweet to one another, unfortunately, it isn't as often as I'd like but we're getting there. You are a great mom, you can tell by how great your kids are.
He'll make somebody a great husband some day!
"You have to tell me...will she be okay?" I feel pretty awful that I think that is hilarious. I can just picture him on a soap opera speaking with the doctor about someone in a coma or something.
ps I hope GC gets to feeling better soon.
Oh my gosh, I wish my boys would act that way towards one another! This is so adorable and so special!
I got something in my eye while I was reading this.
That's so sweet. I really hope she feels better soon.
This just warms me heart. I think you've done more than good... you've done a GREAT job raising BC & GC.
So sweet! What great kiddos.
That is so sweet... it might be a twin thing, but I bet it is because they were raised very well. So if you could write a post on how you were able to raise siblings that love eachother this much at this age, that would be great!
And this is from Brad in NC! :)
*sniffle* Very sweet. I feel lucky that my 2 year old seems to care for her baby sister. She covers her with a blanket if she thinks the baby is cold and will rub the baby's feet and legs while I feed her. :) Of course, the baby can't use her toys yet so we'll see what happens...
I have tears in my eyes now! That is just so sweet.
That's so wonderful. There's nothing I love more than to see my kids showing love to each other...it's rare, but when it happens, it makes me very, very happy.
That's beautiful :) it's so precious how much they care about each other!
That is SO sweet - I think it's a twin thing. My nieces were like that and they're twins. It's a such a special relationship.
That is the sweetest thing I have read in a long time. And, I needed to be reminded that there is sweetness in the world.
My grands are 13 months apart, and they act as if they are twins :) He walks her to her class (kindergarten) every day and gives her a hug good by-in front of all of his friends:) I wonder if it will last past 1st grade?!

I so know what you mean about feeling like you done good in this respect. Whenever my girls are loving with each other I feel like, whatever my faults as a parent, at least something is going very, very right. I love that they love each other.
Oh well that's just the sweetest thing I've heard all day!
Now if only my kids would act that way towards each other! And I know they will one day - they'll be the bestest friends in the world, but for now all they do is fight.
And fight somemore.
You've done good girl! I think it's awesome that your kids love each other so much (and show it!).
I'm catching up on your post for the last few days so I'm sorry I'm behind but...
this is so cute. It reminds me of my brother and I. We aren't twins but sure look like we are and we were just like that growing up. We still are in a way. Each time we see eachother we revert back to the good old days lol.
I'm glad that your children are so close! :)
