This is how we do.

So this morning on my drive in to work I hear on the radio about the phenomena of "Redneck Lay-a-way".

Basically, you go to a store and see an item you want to purchase. You either know that it will be less expensive soon or you know that you do not have the money to purchase it that day. You then take the item and hide it somewhere else in the store so when it goes on sale and/or you do have the money for it, you can go back and buy it.

I swear to frog, I had never in my life heard of that. Also? The people on the radio called it a redneck thing, not me, because I don't want to be a hypocrite and, you know, burst into flames or anything.

People called in to divulge their favorite hiding places in the stores. Notably? Those big rubbermaid trash cans that are usually stacked on the shelves. Apparently you can take them apart, hide your stuff, and then put another can back down on top of it and no one ever finds it. Also? Inside of luggage. Oh and also? In those big displays of tires. Because no one ever buys the display tire, so you just hide your stuff inside of one.

One man called in and said that he and his uncle went to a store on Thanksgiving day and hid two bicycles behind the other sporting goods, knowing the bicycles would be on sale the next day.

This? Is good stuff. I think I might go to the store, just for kicks, and walk around and see what hidden treasures I can find.

Ha! How bizarre! With my luck, I'd buy the luggage and unwittingly shoplift and get caught? "I swear officer, I have no idea how that got in there!"

I've never heard it called that. I didn't know it was a common "sport" either.

My whole reputation is going to go in the shitter saying this, but here goes anyhow:

I hit a store the day before T-day last year, for a few on sale items. I had plans to go back the next day, for their T-day sales.

I noticed that the HotWheels (that were BOGO on T-day) were kinda skimpy. I assumed they'd wheel out a huge display the next morning. Just to be safe though, I took two packs that I wanted to buy, did a 180 and put them behind the toys on that shelf.

The next day, I went into the store, asked a clerk where the HotWheels display was and she told me there wasn't one. I walked back to the shelf I hid them on, and what do you know, much to my surprise, they were still there!

Up until just now, reading that it's called "Redneck Lay-a-way", I have been pretty proud of myself. LOL.

hahahahah! That's great. I am cracking up!

Of course, I've never done that in Wal Mart or anything, but when I worked at Sears, I would hide stuff I wanted and buy it off the clock, also.....college students do it alot. When I worked a college bookstore, I saw college students doing it all the time. I would leave their stuff where it was, though, cuz I'm nice like that. :)

I have never heard of such a thing. Who comes up with this? I think this is a great new scavenger hunt you've come up with.

Guilty, though I've never left anything in a tire, or luggage for that matter. I usually just stash an outfit or pair of jeans a little deeper on the wrong rack and hope for the best come later.

Wow, I've never heard of that! But you know what? I'm going to pay more attention the next time I'm out and about. My curiosity wants to!

You make sure you tell us about what you find okay? I'll do the same....

Okay...

#1 Rednecks didn't think of that...poor people did.
#2 When you think about it...layaway itself is a little redneck-y.
#3 Even though I am not redneck-y in the least...somehow escaping Kentucky with my neck still a pale, ghostly white color...we tried layaway a few years ago because we didn't have anywhere to hide the trampoline we got the kids for Christmas...it was at KMart and they made us pick it up before December 16...pretty much defeating the point of even using it...still had to hide it...we put it under a quilt in our room and I told the boys it was a gift for my then-boyfriend and they would NOT TOUCH IT or ELSE...the night before Christmas we sent them to a friend's house and they NEVER knew...can you believe they didn't look under the quilt?

What was I talking about again?

OMG, I have never heard of that either!! And, I've lived in The South my whole life!! I guess some places are just a little more redneck than others, lol.

Wow. Redneck Layaway. Shouldn't we be proud.
Seriously though, who does that? Usually, if I want something bad enough, I'll just buy it. If I don't just have to have it, I'll check later to see if it's still there. But....
