First Rejection Letter! Woot!

It came in the email today. Thanking me for my submission, but telling me they aren't able to include it in their February issue.

I don't feel that bad. At the same time, I feel even more profoundly that I suck at life.

Maybe that's why they don't want to publish me. I can't even figure myself out!

You should write back and ask them about the March issue. :)

That first letter just means that you are doing something! Putting yourself out there. Yeah for you.

You'll get an acceptance letter soon, I'm sure. Until then we here at your blog can keep you as our little secret and feel special!

And Jenski was SO right. Ask them about March!

I have no doubt that this is the first of a few more rejection letters to come. I also have no doubt that the ones who pass you by will be kicking themselves later once the Big One picks you up and you get published. Trust me, you will be a household name in now time. A la Erma Bombeck.

Don't worry about it. Ask them about the March issue, and just focus on writing, and keep putting yourself out there. If Thomas Edison had stopped trying to make the light bulb, we'd all still be reading by candlelight.

:)

((hugs))

What the heck? Light bulbs? What am I freakin' doing typing by candlelight??!?

::hee::

Keep at it. Don't give up.

Yadda yadda yadda. . .you'll get there, and then we'll all be making big noises about you!!

Well that's what you get for submitting your stuff to losers...

Anonymous said...

Can you just admit you are not a good writer now?????

BandK said...

Even Hemmingway received a few rejection letters in the beginning. It's okay, honey! Keep on truckin' 'cuz someday those bozos are gonna be SOOOO sorry . . .

I haven't even had the guts to submit anything yet. You amaze and inspire me. I could cite thousands of published authors who received dozens of rejection letters before their break. I think it's the hardest part of this writing business. You have to plod away at it, when what you'd really like is a definitive one time answer of yes or no. Bleh! www.lulu.com They turn your rejection letters into toilet paper.

BandK said...

. . . speaking of bozos . . . did you know that I actually know a family, whose last name is "Bozo"? Seriously! I really do!

And yet, I must go there -- oh yes, I must. Can you imagine saying to someone, and honestly MEAN it -- "Yes, I'm married to a Bozo." Heeeeee!!

BandK said...

Hey anonymous, you chicken sh*t. Can you just admit you're a loser now???????

Anonymous said...

Ah, I'm sorry. I know how disappointing it must be. But I am soooo impressed that you had the guts to even try. Keep trying--you will get there eventually.

Gee anonymous, way to put yourself out there.

Chick, hang in there. I know how you are feeling. I got that rejection letter from a job yesterday. I mean I know I'm a good worker (and I don't want to bring my kid to work). I also know that things will work out. But emotionally? It sucks and it's hard.

I think you are a great writer and I come back every day to read. You will get published, keep the faith.

SJINCO said...

Don't give up Chica! You gotta start somewhere, and really - you'll be at the top before you know it.

Hang in there, I'm rooting for you!

Dude, you're not a loser. They're a big bunch o' losers for not wanting to use your submission. Hang in there, you will get published soon!

I see some ball less wonder is jealous and feels the need to leave stupid comments.

Their loss for not publishing you. Our gain that we get you for another month before you hit it big and forget about all of us little peeps *sniff*

:)

Not all submissions get rejection letters......so.........that's something.

TRY AGAIN! Don't let it get you down.

Look at the bright side --- they acknowledged you and wrote back to you:)!!!

Say this to yourself eleventy times:

"I'm okay. I'm awesome. I rock. I'm gonna be published before Easter"

You're so gonna be published before Easter. Why Easter? Hell, I don't know. I just know you will somehow!

Lizarita said...

The first rejection letter and not the last. The point is that you TRIED!! You put yourself out there and SISTER???? THAT is incredible!!!

stephen king was rejected many, many times for Carrie. Carrie. the huge best seller, turned into a movie first novel.

some people just don't know a good thing when they see it.

and I believe in you. a lot.

frannie said...

and I love what karen and bill said to anonymous. so true!

why are they a reader if you are such a "not good writer". and what a miserable life they must have if they have to go around harrassing others.

Alpha Dude said...

Apparently, Anonymous is the only one here today without a brain. (Coward!)

So they don't need your stuff for February, that doesn't mean they won't use it for March or April.

Hang in there and keep moving forward. You ARE a good writter. You know it and I know it.

Don't ever give up.

Blessings.

Dear second-favorite Chick (myself being my first-favorite Chick):

You rock. You wrote something. You submitted it. Someone read it. It wasn't right for them today. But what you write for US? is right. EVERY DAY.

Thank you

ps you do NOT suck at life because #1 evidently you make great money at your job and that is what some people view as MAJOR SUCCESS and #2 You have raised BC and GC and from what I have read here...like you...they also rock

pss omg I have turned into a Chick Sycophant blech I have JOINED which I hate but its hard NOT TO!!!

Suzy said...

Chick, I'm a standup, an actor and a writer. Do you know how many times I've been rejected in my lifetime? PO-LENTY.

It comes with the territory and eventually it just rolls off your back if you put yourself out there enough. It's what makes you better.

Mrs. Booms said...

Here's what gets me about anonymous... Why do you waste your time coming here all the freaking time if you aren't impressed???

The fact that you aren't even creative enough to give yourself a good stalker name and you hide behind anonymous really says something about your taste.

If you're wasting your time trying to tear Chick down you must find her threatening in some way...

I love tiny, little people. They keep the world turning.

My mom is a writer. Published books and all. Down at Barnes & Noble. But the point? I know for sure that she received WAY more rejection letters than she ever did offers. But you know, that one offer is worth the tons of rejections. Keep at it. Don't let it get you down. And remember, you didn't like them either. Or at least, tell yourself that afterwards!

Oh, and Anonymous. Sweetie. Honey. Your insecurities are showing, and it ain't pretty. And like Britney and her naughty bits, it's something the rest of us don't want to see.

Anonymous said...

She knows who I am. She also knows she sucks ass and is never going to make it as a writer. You people aren't helping by encoraging her.

Blue Tissue Box said...

You rock Chick! Keep on plugging away, you know as well as I do, nothing comes easy. The payoff in the end is what makes it all worth it though!

Omg, Trish, you crack my shit up, and are 100% correct.

BandK said...

OMG Anonymous just outed herself!!! Did you guys see that comment from Anonymous?!? She says that Chick knows who she is! So this must be the stalker ex-g/f of Jason's that Chick was talking about!!!!

Cool!!

Dawn~a~Bon said...

I bet that "anonymous" reads a lot and has a deep appreciation of good writing.

*eye roll*

Here's a thought - develop a LIFE, slob. Really, it's quite sad that you had nothing better to do than to stalk and put down someone who's done NOTHING to you except be a way better person. It's not Chick's fault that Jason DUMPED YOUR SORRY BUTT!

Allie said...

Anonymous, you are outnumbered here, move on, we love Chick. To us you just seem sad, do yourself a favor and move on, besides this can't be healthy for you to be stalking her like this.
Chick, rejection is a part of life, its how you handle it that makes the difference. So, get back up on that horse and brace yourself for more because what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Eventually you WILL get published, we know it, you know it, so make it happen.

J said...

Well, it looks as if I don't really need to say anything. (but I will) Everyone else has already taken care of that! But what I can say is this:

Anonymous? Grow a set and put your name out there. Come on now. You think you have balls because you can tell Chick she sucks? That's not balls, honey, that's jealousy.
Chick has everything you want and you are just mad about it.

So what if Chick knows who you are? I want to know who you are, and I am pretty sure everyone else here does, too. So out with it, Miss Thing. You want a fight so bad? Then step up and be a real woman about it and quit hiding behind 'Anonymous'.

And by the way? Quit cryin' like you got sand in your crotch.

WOOO HOO CHICK! I love rejection letters. Think of it as the opportunity to not be stuck with a sucky publisher. They obviously do not know talent when they see it.

Robyn said...

First comes rejections then comes accpetances! I'm telling ya, you are a wonderful writer (just from reading your blog of course) and you will get published here soon! You so rock.

Hey Anon-ninny..go crawl back under your rock. Because I'm sure the maggots are missing you.

Mrs. Booms said...

I'm laughing my ass off at J.

Edie said...

The acceptance letter wouldn't mean as much if it was the first one to arrive. Chin up! It's coming!

EE said...

Keep at it, Chick! You're going to be published and famous one day!

Anon can't spell:o

Rachel (Crazy-Is) said...

Even authors on the NY times list got rejected! The fact that you sent your writing to a potential publisher? ROCKS!! I don't have the nerve to even think about doing that. Of course, I can't write, so that kinda works into that too.

Love Bites said...

I read a FUCKING LOT. You most certainly do not fuck. Don't let the assholes get you down.

when you start thinking about giving up, watch this. Just do it.
