It keeps moving on.

So tomorrow is our anniversary. Five years.

We were going to renew our vows tomorrow at a cabin in the mountains. But we won't now. Job loss earlier in the year, the economy, everyone tightening their belts...it's just not a good time to spend money like that.

But it is a good time to be married five years.

It's odd. I know five years isn't some huge amount of time. I know that five years is a mere drop in the bucket. We're just babies. This has just started. My parents have been married nearly forty years. My sister, even, has been married almost twenty. Five years is just a blip on the radar of life.

But still.

We have memories. We have a life, together.
We have history.

Not all of it is good, mind you. There have been moments in which he has narrowly escaped my foot in his ass. I'm sure there are moments when I have narrowly escaped his. He's seen me at my best and at my worst. I had to watch him puke one day and then he wore a tank top in public and I didn't even divorce him. If that's not love, I'm not sure what is.

He supports everything I do. He's my biggest fan, and I'm his. He makes me laugh. He reigns me in. He might even read my book when it comes out.

He's my best friend.

Our anniversary doesn't just mark the day that we were married, it marks the day we became a family.

So tomorrow we won't be at a church, but we'll still be celebrating.

Because marriage, so far, means renewing those vows every single day.

Happy anniversary! Today is my two week anniversary. Just of a relationship not of a wedding. :-)
5 years really is something, don't fool yourself. Enjoy your day together and remember all the great times that you have shared and remember that there are more to come.

Happy Anniversary! We celebrated our 5th this year as well. It seems like forever some days and some days it feels like a drop in the bucket. Depends on the level of PMS :)

i totally understand this. we were married 5 years in april. and i can't remember (or don't want to) not being a complete family.

after 2 failed marriages (!!!!!), it was a knock-me-on-my-ass surprise that it could be so good.

yay for us all.

Congratulations! You've outlived most Hollywood marriages too, so that's something. I bet you Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon don't make it to 5 years.

Hubby and I will be married 4 years next month and sometimes it feels like a lifetime!

Happy Anniversary -- congrats on realizing that every day is important, not just the "big" ones!

Get this: My parents just celebrated their 58th Anniversary on July 2nd.

Yes I said FIFTY-EIGHTH!!! With the same person! And they still love each other and stuff. They even hold hands.

Amazing.

Me? I've been married three times. I guess I don't have what it takes, although I think this third one is going to take.

But congrats to you! Five is a great number. Here's to 25 more!!

Happy Anniversary and 5 years is a huge deal, we celebrated our 5th anniversary last year and seriously every year is a big deal. 5 years is a long time especially this day and age and I hope you have another 50 great years with Jason.

Five years is WONDERFUL! I am really happy for you guys. I feel like you and I have sort of travelled down this road concurrently, and I'm so happy that we're both still loving the hubsters and haven't killed them yet! Much love to you and your hubs!

that it does...
and you know what? 5 years IS HUGE. It's a huge percentage of marriages don't make it that long. It's the big "hump" and that's AWESOME!

congratulations!

That is beautiful Chick! 5 years is nothing to sneeze at - my late husband died just before we made it to 5 years so when HP and I got to 5 years I was thrilled and relieved. xoxo

One of my favorite quotes of all time:

"Love doesn't just sit there, like a stone; it has to be made, like bread, remade all the time, made new." (Ursula K. LeGuin)

Happy, happy anniversary, my dear.

Hey, don't downplay that five years. You can go through a whole heck of a lot of things in five years. I am pretty sure you have too.

Congrats!
