I probably shouldn't admit this.

Okay, so tomorrow? My kids are going to a birthday party.

And I realized today that, um, this is the first birthday party they've ever attended. Other than family parties and their own birthday parties.

They've been invited to parties, mind you. But I've never let them go. I've always come up with some kind of excuse at to why they shouldn't go, can't go, wouldn't go.

Now seriously? What the hell is wrong with me?

Overprotective is one thing. But that's just not cool.

They are ten years old, for the love of God.

I'm the same way, I just don't trust other kid's parents with my kids so the only one Nicholas has ever been to was about a year ago and that turned out to be a big mistake. I've found that I really don't like other people's kids very much.

My oldest is only 2 but I don't let her go to parties right now, even if I'm with her and it's not unsupervised.

Why? I FUCKING HATE THEM. The making small talk, the annoying children that aren't mine, the obnoxious hippie parents that smell like patchouli and armpits, the breastfeeding nazis who give me dirty looks when I shove a bottle in my son's mouth... and good lord, the seething germs at places like Chuck E. Coli.

Ugh, birthday parties. I'm not looking forward to that part of parenting. For better or worse, I'm probably not going to have anything beyond cake and presents at the dinner table style parties for the baby. I don't worry about it too much, because he'll probably hate me for far worse things than that, right?

Plus, are you buying two presents, one from Boy Child and one from Girl Child? I wouldn't. But I'm a scrooge.

My kids pretty much go to every one they are invited to. My mom once left the 2yr old at a party alone. The family said she could, I was so not pleased. The older kids I will leave depending on the type of party. But I don't do a lot of inviting of children for playdates or anything, so letting them go to parties makes me feel a little less guilty.

Really? Parties equal CAKE!!! And when there's cake... there's fun! (Unless the people suck.)

I hate the birthday party scene. Up until a couple of months ago I always stayed at the parties with the kids, and it was awkward to say the least. I hate trying to talk to people I don't know.

Just a few months ago I left K at a party, and felt horrible the whole time. I was the first mom there to pick up a kid. This dropping them off at a strangers house just doesn't gel with me.

My mum only let me go to parties when she knew the parents of the kid inviting me. Which ended up not being very many as she worked while I was growing up.

Around here we have parties where you invite the whole family, not just the kids. The adults hang around and chat while the kids go nuts. It's a blast.

I am totally in the minority, I see. Because I think that birthday parties are great!!! I love watching my son have so much fun and I loved having his party and all the little kiddo's running around. So much fun!!! I really never knew that people didn't like them. What's not to like? It's a party!

We have one next weekend, and we can't wait!

it seems like most of the parties my kids have been to usually are at a roller rink or chucky cheese so if I find myself feel a bit out of place I go play with the kids! it's more fun to be skating or playing games with the kids anyway, it a good way to get to know them!

I have the same inclination. I fight myself for every birthday party they are invited too. I can honestly say, she doesn't go to more than she does.
