Fat ass in the middle! Thank you!

So I had lunch yesterday at a restaurant with some of my co-workers and my very good friend and former co-worker Dawn.

We had lunch at Applebee's and I was glad. Because they have the Weight Watchers menu. And I'm all about the Weight Watchers and also all about making my life easier. Calculating Points makes me cranky sometimes.

What I was NOT all about was the fact that the waitress brought out our big tray of food and said, loudly, "WHO HAD THE WEIGHT WATCHERS SALAD?"

I do not delude myself into thinking I am not overweight. Yes, I'm losing weight, but I'm still overweight. It's not a secret. I don't look in the mirror in the morning and go, "What the hell? How did THAT happen?" I know. Believe me. I know.

But still. Is it cool for her to announce it to the room like that? I don't think so.

Maybe I'm oversensitive. Or cranky. Or just hungry or something, I don't know.

It just didn't seem nice. She didn't announce, "VERY FATTENING ONION RINGS!" when she gave another one of the people her food.

I always order off the Weight Watchers menu at Applebee's, not because I'm on Weight Watchers, but because everything else on the menu has about a trillion calories. The servers always announce it as "Weight Watchers" when they bring it to me. Don't let it bother you too much - it's ok for other people to see that you're being a healthy eater.

Well at least they didn't look around and say "Oh. You must've ordered the Fat Broad special."

That's kinda like the grocery clerk announcing "I need a price check on Super Absorbency Tampons on Register 10!"

I prefer to pretend that other people don't NOTICE that I'm fat...and when someone announces something like that it's like they're telling my secret. Read:complete denial. hahahaahah!

Too bad you couldn't have announced " Which waitress is getting the shitty tip because she offended me?" as you left your change.

That was just rude, that waitress of yours. I'm sorry :(

I love their WW Menu too and counting points makes me cranky as well.

Oh, and another thing? I think you are a beautiful individual - inside & out!

Dude. That was rude of her. She should have said "who had the salad" period.

Have you heard anything about the new WW system?? Any thoughts on it?

In stealing your words, what a DOUCHEHAT!

I hear ya, sister.

I love when I'm out with 'thinner' friends and the server always looks confused as to 'who ordered the diet.'

Yeah, that'd be me, genius.

I am frequently shocked at how unthinking and insensitive many people are... though you would think that someone making their living in the service industry would know better. I suppose that is what I get for thinking!

You know, I never thought of it that way but you're right. They never do point out the non-WW menu stuff.

My other favorite is when I order something from the WW menu and they ask "Off the WW menu?" Like they just want to bring it to my attention that I'm not ordering off the "normal" menu.

Morons.

That'd make me cranky too.

Unless they said in a nice, hey-good-for-you kind of voice.

No, nothing wrong with YOU! Some people can never be taught!

Most servers call the food by what it's called on the menu -- who had the Sweet & Sour Chicken, the Chef Salad, the Weight Watchers Salad. What did you call it when you ordered it? If she made up her own name for it to take a dig at you then it was rude, otherwise you're just hungry.

What a douche, you never know how people are going to react so that waitress should have just asked who had the salad. I personally I am weird and think when I eat healthy I want people to know, does that make sense? It's like I am proud of myself for making the good choice.

I just gave you an award. I'm guessing you don't play along with those, but I really wanted to send my readers your way.

Your blog really is one of my favorites!

Yeah. My mom gave me good advice when she said, "Don't read in." This means don't read any intention into random things that come out of other people's mouths. It's just not worth the trouble.

I always eat the weight watcher food at Applebees too because it's seriously GOOD. That tilapia is amazing. I don't know what they do to their broccoli, but it's soooo delicious.

I have a big family and people say a lot of odd things to me too. But none of it really has much to do with me or my life. It's their perception, their bias, their ideas. A lot is positive, but the comments that are weird or negative do hurt. Especially since they're not based on reality.

Anyway, I guess what I'm getting to is that you have the right to be yourself, to take up space, to weigh whatever you do and eat what you feel like at the time. Water off a duck's back, let any comments go.

Best wishes to you, as always. love, V

OK, I think those onion rings probably WERE the most fattening things I've ever seen . . . and I thought your salad looked way yummier. Let's go do lunch some time and we'll both get the WW salad! Yummmmmy!

I am sure there were other aspects of the salad she could have pointed out. Obviously there is more than one weight watchers meal. Just 'Who ordered the salad' would have sufficed, I'm sure.
