Not 16 years ago, and not now either.

The Facebook always wants to offer me suggestions on people who could potentially be my "friend".

While I appreciate their concern with my social wellness, I really wish they would offer me options other than "Accept Friend" or "Ignore request".

I'm thinking more along the lines of buttons like:

I hated their guts in high school, did not miss them the entire time they have been out of my life, and find that my hate for them is not diminished, but exacerbated by this brief and meaningless exchange!

or:

There's a reason they aren't invited to the family reunion! Don't even get me started!

or even:

I only tolerated them because they dated my sister and I didn't even really like them even though I bought them a bottle of Drakkar Noir (which all the guys on the back of my schoolbus bathed in and referred to as "Dra-Car") that one time for Christmas back in the early 1990's.

I don't know.

Facebook is probably nicer than me.

Girl, you have a gift!!! I am amazed at the people that *suddenly* want to talk to me on a daily basis. . . that teased the heck out of me as a teenager. They compliment my pictures. . .they talk about how talented (ha) I am. . .and how much they LOVE me.

. . .I am SO not kidding.

wow.

I just ignore them.

I joined facebook basically to connect with old friends but it seems most of my "friends" are people I see currently on a regular basis. So, instead of calling, emailing, now we just do a facebook comment.

I'm not sure I like it.

I've found that the people obsessed with "popularity" and being "cool" are the ones with the compulsive need to friend anyone whose name they've ever heard in their lives -- even if they don't recognize your actual face! I just ignore them, too. Whatever. Says more about their insecurity problems than me! :)

Technology can be scary!

Hahahah! It seems hard to push that little "ignore" button, but once you do it--it's so liberating!

I am such a coward. I add them when they ask. Then I sneakily remove them a few weeks later.

What's weird, is when they send ANOTHER request after I've done that. What the heck?!

I love to ignore people. I agree with the pp that it is liberating. Which reminds me that I should do a little "friend" cleaning up.

I agree that your options should be included and then they should be sent to the person or posted on their page LOL!

I feel too guilty to even hit ignore, so it ends up just sitting there. Unanswered. Forever.

Really, there should be rules about this. If we dated and you dumped me for my best friend who you happened to be sleeping with BEFORE you broke up with me, I probably don't want to be your facebook friend. Although, that one I had no problem hitting ignore on.

You *don't* pronounce it "Dra-Car"?

Chick - I got a friends request a few weeks ago from a girl who spent most of our jr high and high school years looking for ways to torment me. She was Queen Bee mean girl of our school and I was her favorite target. I stared at the email for the longest time, going "wtf? WHY would I want to be your friend, even over Facebook? I hated you when we were 18, I haven't seen you for 17 years but I still hate you!" Ultimately I took the chickenshit way out and the email is still sitting in my inbox, taunting me. Maybe this weekend I will grow the ovaries to officially deny her request...

i won't drink the kool-aid that is facebook. i refuse on the grounds that i still speak with the ONE person i liked in high school and have no desire to "reconnect" with all the other hosers.

i think that everyone else wants to see if they've aged better than i have, if they have better jobs i do, and if they have more kids i have.

for the record, the answer to each question above is a resounding, "YES."

or maybe that's just my mistaken perception of facebook.

Hmmm...Kimberley removed me as a friend. Ah well.

My hs boyfriend wore Drakkar. What a flashback. And oddly enough? friends with him on facebook.
