Changing focus.

I've set my new book aside. Just for now.

Instead, I'm writing a book about being a mother. Not that I'm a good and/or appropriate mother. I'm not. I probably never will be.

But I am what I am.

And there are stories there too.

So. We'll see how that goes.

Good, hon. I've been wondering if your book-writing and the topic at hand was having to do with what's been going on. Do what you've got to do, you know?

I think you are a pretty good mother. Inappropriate or not!

I think this is a super good idea! I can only hope my kids will like me when they are 11!!! Can't wait to read it!

In all of my schooling, we learn that all a mother has to be is "good enough." Not fabulous, wonderful, or perfect (not that we don't all hopefully have those moments, too), but good enough is what makes healthy happy adults out of our children.

Ahh, if only I could remember that most of the time I do "good enough..."

Really! That will be so awesome! I think you have to be a pretty great mother because from what you write about your kids...you have 2 amazing kids! I hope that I have as good a relationship with my boys as you do with your kids. I will be eagerly awaiting this book!

OH that is great! You have lots of stuff to share so it is great that you are doing this. You have a better relationship with your kids than I had at 11 with both my parents, and it only a hair better now. Hugs.

Sounds like you know where you focus and effort will be best right now. Good luck writing and reflecting on motherhood! The fact that you care about your kids and how you raise them, means you are a good mother, in spite of what you may feel comes across as inappropriate or not good.

I have an inkling that the definition of 'good and/or appropriate mother' that is in the dictionary in your head would be hard for any of us to live up to.

That goes for good person, too.

Which is to say that I do not agree that you are not a good and/or appropriate mother, or a good and/or appropriate person, or a good and/or appropriate blogger, or writer or anything. You're just fine by me.

So says 1 Canadian girl who reads you blog.

You are too hard on yourself, I think, when it comes to what sort of mother you are. None of us is perfect, but in the end, it's what our kids think that matters. I'll bet if you ask your kids what kind of mom you are, they'll say you're fabulous. And there you have your answer!

Oh! Not a good or appropriate mother?! What IS good or appropriate? I have worked with parents and families for more than 25 years and I have come to this conclusion: I can't put "good" or "bad" labels on something like a parent. Everyone is just the best parent they know how to be. And from your writings, you are most certainly doing your best.

And, oh my goodness, I can imagine how great that book about your mother experiences would be.

Peace.

I think this is a wonderful idea! And I'd be willing to bet that you are a fantastic mother...and it'll show in your book.

Since we first met, before I was anywhere near being a mother, I wanted to be a mother like you when I grew up.

I only hope I'm 1/2 the mom you are. And I think a book on being a mother? Is a kickasstacular book topic and one you'll breeze through with fabulousness. <3 love you.

I love your honesty with your kids. I do the same with mine. I want them to know that I will always tell them the truth, even when the truth may not be what they want to hear...or what others think I should tell them.
