Long, beautiful hair.

So I dyed my hair the other day.

I'm not a real girl and I don't do things like that, ever. You know what my haircare routine is? I wash it, condition it, and that's it. I don't blow-dry. I don't put weird spooge looking stuff in it. I do the basics.

It works for me.

BUT, I'm getting older or more harrassed or some crap and I've developed a nice little wad of gray hair. RIGHT IN THE FRONT where it's really obvious, because I am an extremely lucky person.

So I went to the store and looked at the eleven million products available and picked up two boxes (I have a ton of hair, I have to have two boxes) of a product called, "Chocolate Covered Cherry". It was the closest I could find to my normal hair color.

So I spent like, two hours on this production on Saturday morning and you know what happened?

Nothing.

No one noticed.

Jason noticed because that stuff stinks something awful and he was like, "GOOD GOD WHAT DIED IN THE BATHROOM?" and so I had to tell him.

But no one else has said a word.

I told Jason last night and he said, "Isn't that the point? I mean, if you did Ronald McDonald red or something then people would notice, but it's your normal hair color, right?"

Right.

But still. That box lured me with the promise that I would somehow become really sexy and amazing if I used it. And that just didn't happen.

Good thing my self-esteem is so low or all this might have really hurt my feelings.

I have had this exact same experience. I think it's harder for us wash'n'wear gals. We expect more from the experience, somehow.

Just picture in your mind someone noticing that little poof of grey and saying something nasty...and then grin because it -didn't- happen. There's your silver lining, right there.

The time before last when I colored my hair I said something to my husband about no one noticing and his response was almost identical to Jason's

Sigh...I felt the same way, as if coloring my hair would magically make me 100 lbs lighter or something.

Oh well, back to that McDonald's breakfast biscuit. It will make me feel better, right?

I guess it's the point: you don't want there to be a big noticeable change. Sort of like a good hair cut: to me, if you can't tell I got my haircut, that's a sign my chick knows what she's doing.

You're still beautiful!

This just means that you already were sexy, don't let it get you down.
I used to dye my hair so much that people were totally not surprised to see me with pink hair. I quit dying my hair about 9 months ago and I'm still going through withdrawal.

Ohhh I bet it's pretty!

Heck no, girl. This means you did an awesome job. I usually go for freakishly huge drastic change in some sort of attempt to be a better, cooler me. Always noticeable and not always for the right reasons.

By the way, have I told you lately that I love you and thanks for the love back?

one time I did my hair and it turned out purple, green and gray.

no, I'm so not kidding.

good thing it was close to Halloween.

Every once in a while I am under the illusion that one of those boxes will turn my hair into one of those gorgeous colors that the commercials show. And, then I try it and they never work. And then I am pissed off.

Ack, I feel your pain and hey, at least you didn't mess it up right? I too only wash and condition my hair, no blow drying or hair products around here. I guess it's a curly/wavy hair thing.

OHMIGOSH It may be just me and my rose colored glasses, but you are at least 10% more beautiful than yesterday.

The one and ONLY time I went to the Walmart to buy some color for my hair. . . I ran into my boss there.

He noticed. Pointed it out. Laughed.

I never did it again.

Now I'm relishing those little freaking streaks of gray hair. And each one has a name attached to it. : )

the last time I tried to dye my hair it turned a fascinating shade of brassy green... it was supposed to go dark blonde.

craptacular.

I'm always afraid to truly dye my hair myself and use those 28 washes kits. Congrats on it only taking 2 hours. Is the gray patch gone? Sometimes people will note that something is different but be afraid to ask!

I bet it's super shiney! And I bet it looks awesome. I would have noticed because I'm observant like that - men on the other hand? Not so much.

No one noticed because you already ARE amazing, and stuff.

Just know, Chick. Just know.

I actually had this happen to me recently too. I had light brown hair with BLONDE HIGhLIGHTS...I dyed it back to my "normal" or "natural" (whatever you want ot call it) color which is dark brown...drastic, drastic change and NO ONE noticed!!

Chick,

Can I first point out, as Allie Bear also said. You are already sexy and amazing, so what's a box of color gonna do to change that?

Second, for a woman who declares herself "not a real girl", finding a color that comes even close to your own, and actually having the hair color take and workout without turning your hair green, purple, or some other interesting mixture.

Personally I think the skunk stripe look is something few women can pull off, and fewer can really own it and make it theres.

Chick? You could so own that look.

I bet your hair color looks great...

I once had my naturally very curly, naturally very dark brown hair highlighted.....it was supposed to be honey colored highlights, naturally with my luck they turned more gray/platinum.

My boss looked at me the next day and said "Did you perm your hair?"

sometimes it's not that they noticed...it's what the noticed.

LOL, that's why I have mine done professionally, and why I never go for my natural colour.
I'm sure it looks good though.

I get it. That's why I use a different color every time just so someone will notice (all various shades of auburn/red/brown). Why? I have no idea.

My husband? Same comment at Jason at the smell - but he knows to comment on the color!

I'd say you're very, very lucky. I've used home hair color kits only to somehow end up with colors that should have been called Neon Peach, or Wilma Flintstone, or Crow.

Believe me. Change isn't all it's cracked up to be when it comes to hair color.

My mom died her hair purple by accident once, she bought it over the counter at a drug store. Only problem was that it was 1 week before my wedding.

Now, I did notice that....

Like Allie Bear and Doug said - they didn't notice because you're already sexy. Or your hair is so awesome already that the women were just annoyed that you made it better. (Seriously, I have major hair envy :)

And the men are still trying to figure out what you changed.

The guys in my life are always hesitant to say anything in case they get snapped at because they noticed the wrong thing.
