I paid off my car this weekend. That was pretty rad.
And I started thinking about how I can take that money and pay off other things. And I can get out of debt which would be even more rad.
And then?
I think I want to move.
I think I want to move back to North Carolina.
I know, I know. A cold day in Hell and all that. But the sad truth is, my dad is not getting any younger. And my kids aren't getting any younger. And the combination of my dad and my kids? Makes me really freaking happy.
So. I don't know, but it feels right.
It won't happen soon. I've got debts to pay and the market sucks, so selling our Tennessee house right now is not logical.
But I think I need to go.

You need to go be with your dad, even if just for a little while.
I spent several days with my dad just before he died. I realized then that it was probably the last time I'd see him. He died two days after I got back home.
You need to go be with your dad. Don't put it off.
I long to be in Colorado where my parents are now ... they are in their 70's but I am torn, because my children and grandchildren are here in VA. I can empathize with you - it's tough.
Congratulations on paying off your car!! It must feel great to try to decide what to do with the car payments. :-)
Congratulations on the car - that's awesome!
That's a tough decision. How does Jason feel about it. I want to move home to be close to my mom & my huz' parents since my Dad died in the fall but he has no interest in going. It's only 2 hours away so not too bad, but I still want to go.
Just want to say that I love your blog. You are so funny!!
Congrats on the car payoff. As a suggestion, put some of your monthly payment in the bank, an envelope, whatever every month. The brakes will need to be replaced, the muffler will get a hole, a tire will go flat.
Use your 'stash' to pay for the repair. It is less painful. Trust me.
Or you could blow off my suggestion and go out and buy some wicked pumps and a new handbag.
Congrats on the car!!! And as for NC....My vote is for you to get on back here. We can hang out, do lunch, play with the goats....HAHA.
I don't want you to move for purely selfish reasons, but I totally understand your reasoning. And CONGRATULATIONS on the car! That's so wonderful. It's like getting a raise; more money in your pocket each month!
Leave it to my husband to be the practical one.
. . . and I'm not even going to mention the whole NC thing. I'm just not.

MDA is right - stash some for repairs. We spent over $3,000 on van repairs this year on top of the stupid car payment. What can go wrong, will (with cars).
But CONGRATS on paying it off!! HUGE step!!
NC is SO close to me too....
Google Dave Ramsey. He rocks! He has a class called Financial Peace University, which teaches great concepts about getting out of debt. He would tell you that your budget should include a fund for car repairs, as MDA said, and several other things. With what is left, you should pay off other debt, starting with the lowest balance first so that you will build momentum. Check him out, you won't be sorry!
YES YES YES....NC is the choice. I am living in Goldsboro....it is nice here....nice houses, nice schools, nice people (well crap, I don't really like people...not really but I think they are nice here :)
Great idea!!
wow! sounds awesome!
and i agree with "tulip girl" above... i know a number of people who have benefited from Dave Ramsey's program/lifestyle. might help you get on your way to NC even sooner!!
If the thought of being in NC feels right, go for it! Debt and all that other stuff can wait, it'll be there when you are ready to pay it off. Your Dad however isn't getting any younger, and your kids are going to continue to just getting old. Those two things are NOT to wait, no matter what. Do it now and enjoy it to the fullest, while you can.
