So things right now? Not great.
Okay, maybe that's not fair. Work is not great. Work, in fact, both sucks and blows.
My marriage is good, my children are healthy, and I'm luckier than most. But works sucks, and it makes it hard to see the good things.
Today was overall okay with the exception of half an hour with an auditor who not only humorless but a complete dick. But overall, I'm sad. I'm bummed. I need to get out of the situation I'm in. I'm working on it, but I'm not there yet.
So what do I do when it gets bad?
I take a walk.
I really do love to walk, despite my complaining about the 1/2 mile I have to trek twice daily to get to my car. I like being outside and I like how I feel when I am done, even if my butt tingles while I walk. I especially like to walk with my children, because it gives us precious time that we don't necessarily get while we are home, to hash things out.
Tonight's walk topics included:
1) Why the asphalt plant really does smell like ass.
2) The correct spelling of asphalt.
3) The correct pronunciation of asphalt. Which, by the way, is not Ass Fall, as Girl Child would like you to believe.
4) Judy Blume and why her books were banned.
5) Hillary Clinton.
6) Adam and Eve and why they sinned.
7) Survival skills if you see a bear.
I know all of that is pretty random, with the exception of the series of questions about asphalt. But that's really what is wonderful about all of it. The randomness. How they feel they can ask me anything and how we can talk about anything, anytime. How as it got darker and darker outside they drew closer and closer to me.
I love our walks in that special hour between daylight and darkness.
I love being their mom.

They are two very blessed kids to have you as a mom.
I keep praying about your job situation.
Awww...you are all so blessed, and that is a beautiful picture. :)
Sorry your work sucks, hopefully you'll find a new job soon. :)
i understand exactly how you feel about work sucking, and yet the rest of your world is good, but because work sucks, everything gets tinged with the suck.
keep up that walking. sounds like it's quality time when the important topics of the day (like asphalt) can be discussed.
Awww....that's a lovely scene to picture.
To follow up on the why Adam and Eve sinned topic... Did Adam and Eve have belly buttons? That'll get them going!
You all are lucky to have each other.
xoxo
Being a mother is the most precious gift God can give. You are very blessed.
That is so precious and wonderful. Congratulations on raising such inquisitive, charming and loving children! Hope the job stuff gets worked out quickly.
and I know that they love being your kids!
Oh honey, enjoy it while you can. And talk to me in four or five years, when they are 14 or 15 and see if you still love being their mom! LOL
Sometimes I think God made teenagers so awful so we won't feel so bad when it's time for them to leave the nest! In fact, you may just throw a party to celebrate!
But the good news? Is they get into their 20s and become human beings again. And then you're their friend. And life is good again! :-)
Sadly a wonderful home life just can't quite make up for a crappy work life. You're at work for the majority of the day. You're a person who actually has integrity, so doing your job right actually matters to you, and that makes it so much harder when you have to deal with being treated like crap. I had a miserable job when Neil and I were newlyweds. I was so happy to be married to him, etc...it was lovely, but because my job sucked, life sucked, you know?
Chick - this is lovely. Lovely! It made me laugh and it shows how open your relationship is with your children.
Got a prayer you want to share? I would love you too - if you wouldn't mind (come see the new blog);). It could be anonymous...or not..it's up to you.
xo
It's great you have such a good relationship with your kids!
I love the stream of consciousness way kids talk about things. They're so much more open than we are to that. I wonder how much more awesome the world would be if we asked all of the questions we could...
Sorry work sucks--I hope you can find a way out soon!!
I love reading about your times with the kids--they are blessed to have you for their Mom :)
Those sound like the best talks.
Also? All the specialists say that spending that kind of unstructured time where your kids feel like they can really talk to you is what makes kids stay close to their parents through the teenage years and reduce their odds of getting pregnant too early, drugs and all that other stuff that terrifies us moms. So you rock!!!!
And I'm sorry about the job situation. I've been there before, where I'd drive home crying every day and it's just absolutely no fun.
I am sorry about your job situation, I know how much hating your job can affect you. I am hoping that you find something you love soon!
I love that you are there mom too! You deserve such awesome kids and they deserve such an awesome mom!
I'm glad you have such a wonderful relationship with your kids! Sounds like you will be the cool mom when they are teenagers and beyond.
Those random conversations are the best, especially with kids! Hope your job situation gets better.
I'm very jealous of your ability to walk to your car, wish we could do that in this country.
I love that you have such an open, and honest relationship with your kids. That's the one thing that I strive for too.....
Ya'll are so real. I love.
who in their right mind would ban judy bloom....curses...
