Why is this a show?

It's no secret that I highly enjoy partaking in bad television. If you are an aging rocker living in a mansion with a number of skank whores or a cockslap who makes people do random and bizarre things in an effort to become their bff? I'm so there.

Last night I was almost asleep when I heard a commercial for a new FOX show called More To Love. The FOX website says:

LARGER-THAN-LIFE SINGLE MAN LOOKS FOR "MORE TO LOVE"

New Dating Series Executive-Produced by Reality Czar Mike Fleiss

FOX is setting out to prove that love comes in all shapes and sizes with the new inspirational dating competition series MORE TO LOVE. Executive-produced by Mike Fleiss ("The Bachelor," "The Bachelorette"), the unscripted series follows a single average guy with a big waist and an even bigger heart as he romances several confident and secure plus-size women. Each week, the husky hunk will wine and dine a group of curvy women to determine if they have more love to give or if they are truly more than he can handle. When the size of competition narrows, he will have to decide if one full-figured lady will become his true love.

"This is a dating show that sends the right message about embracing and loving yourself no matter your shape or size," said executive producer Mike Fleiss. "When you are comfortable with your own body, you can really allow yourself to be open to the possibility of finding the right person to love."

Iconic full-figured supermodel Emme will host MORE TO LOVE. A pioneer for plus-size women in the modeling industry, Emme became the first full-figured model to land a contract as a cosmetics company spokesperson when she signed with Revlon. Her career as a model, television personality, author, inspirational speaker and clothing designer promotes and exemplifies positive body image, self-esteem and self-acceptance.

Okay. Sounds lovely, I suppose.

I then found photos of the cast. And dude? Seriously? These women are gorgeous. Gorgeous. And most of them, I'm thinking, are probably skinnier than plus-sized me.

So the concept, I guess, is fine.

But why is this even a thing?
Why do these women have to have a separate show?

I don't get this. Because they are a size 12 instead of a size 0 they have to have an entirely different show? Plus-sized women only like "husky hunks"? Fat people can only love other fat people? WTF?

I'm reminded of a time, several years ago, that Jason and I were in a restaurant. Two really skinny girls were sitting behind us and one of them was trying to get Jason's attention. At one point I got up to use the restroom and heard one of them whisper to the other, "Sister".

Because, God knows, he couldn't be my BOYFRIEND. I was FAT. And he wasn't. He was a good-looking, average-sized guy and there was just NO POSSIBLE WAY that he would want to be with ME. God knows he couldn't be interested in me because my ass has not ever and likely will never fit into a pair of size zero jeans. Or even a size six, if I'm being honest.

So why? What's the point of this show? Why not just have these beautiful ladies on the regular bachelor? Why does this have to be such a big deal? Why are two overweight people falling in love any more "inspirational" than two skinny people falling in love?

I don't understand. And seriously, I TiVo 16 and Pregnant y'all. I get the point of pointless things.

I just don't get this.

Dude, I totally agree. That Arianne girl? Judging from her picture, she looks like a size 8 or 10. I'm kind of with you - why is this news?

Have you heard about the new show Dance Your Ass Off? It's a dance competition/weight loss competition show. I think it's going to be super fun!

I actually got a flyer from my fav plus-size store (LB), with casting calls for this show in ATL. Yeah....I'm married and all, but if not, I would soooo be there! My husband was all about this show (and good for me that he likes curvy ladies!). :-)

Okay, I'll just say it. Because if you put the big girls next to the skinny girls then the guy is always going to pick the skinny girl. Its human nature. Men are attracted to the skinny girls. The only fair way is to give the big girls there own show. This is why they have a fat guy too. The skinny girls wouldn't want to be with a big fat guy. You couldn't compete on the Bachealor. The guy would eliminate you the first date (he'd be an idiot because you are great, but he would lol)

Preach it!

I've been seeing these promos for a while now, and I am competely DISGUSTED. And it's not because of the "fat" girls. I've never watched any of the Bachelor type shows and this will be no exception.

It's a stupid premise that fat people need to only mate with their own kind. And since they can't get anyone else to take them out, how about putting them on TV! Let's watch all the fat girls cry! They're never going to get anyone anyway. I hate this show and I've never even seen it.

Ummmmm... yeah. These are not plus-size women. These are average-size women.

This is exactly why perfectly healthy and normal girls develop eating disorders. Body standards are so freaking skewed in our culture it makes me want to vomit--without any help from my finger at all.

And I totally agree about this stupid 'segregation' of fat vs skinny. This mindset that a skinny guy couldn't possibly be attracted to a large woman totally undermines the confidence and self-esteem of so many amazing larger women, so that it becomes sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy. I have to admit, though, that at times I find myself unconsciously buying into it. Sometimes when I see a skinny chick with a big guy, I think, "Awwwwww come on. Leave SOMETHING for the big girls, geez."

But truly, if given the initial chance to develop, love is blind to size. If given the chance.

I agree with you. This is just too weird. Im a plus sized girl (working on loosing weight, darn ex lol) and I live in a mostly hispanic complex. Funny thing is these guys are always hitting on me and not my skinny sister lol. So guess it is all up to what people like.

A lot of reality tv is too weird for me, but I do catch myself watching some of it, and yes did watch several episods of 16 and pregnant LOL.

Happy 4th of July!!!

Adrienne looks to be not much bigger than me... (little old me, who is constantly told how cute and "petite" i am).

OMG I AM FAT!!!!111111one

*rolls eyes* Seriously? Wow. Everytime I think "ok, maybe I don't hate Fox" they pull a stunt like this.

Next thing you know, they'll have a black guy looking for a white mama or something similar because god knows you can't love someone from an other race (... I should copyright that now. bigotry ftw! sigh.)

Yeah, I hate the fact that they did this too. And I'm so, SO afraid that it will be popular because people are making fun of it.

It makes me sad.

You know, the sad this is that I totally get why this idea made it to the actually becoming a show stage. It's such a demonstration of how messed up our heads are though.

I was JUST talking about this last night!!

I totally agree. How about you make the actual bachelor more like real life? Why does it have to be called "More to Love" when it's AVERAGE SIZED PEOPLE!

Ugh, I'm not even gonna get started. It seriously makes me angry.

I had not even heard of this until I saw a tweet from Mrs. CPA. All kinds of wrong. It's like, if you are fat, stick with your own kind. And I am SO disappointed with Emme for putting her name with this. But I think calling her PLUS size in the first place is all kinds of wrong too. Dude. She is skinny!

Yeah, it's like the "plus size" models, they are really a size 10, it's ridiculous! I hate the Bachelor and shows like that, I don't get the point, now America's Next Top Model and Project Runway, I'm all about that! LOL

Because in the screwed-up reality that is Hollyweird, thin men don't like overweight women and thin women don't like overweight men. SEGREGATION!!! I'm telling you, that little section of California can't handle mixing of the clothing sizes.

i agree with you 100%. This actually caught my attention a few days ago and I thought the same thing. I'm glad I'm not the only one out there thinking this.

Arianne and Tali are probably smaller than me and I'm not overweight? Well, technically, maybe a few pounds, but considering my height and the 8 month old on my floor, the world can bite me as far as I'm concerned, but ... hell I dont know what my point is, that the show seems really pointless and pathetic way of jacking up ratings during the blah blah days of summer?

Dawn~a~Bon said...

Anon, honey, that's just not true. Some guys like thin girls, some like athletic girls, some guys like curvy girls. I'm average sized (well, when I'm not 24 weeks pregnant), and I dated a guy who made comments to me about how I was too thin and how he liked thicker girls (why he was dating me when I was clearly inadequate by his standards is beyond me, but my point is - different strokes for different folks).

I completely understand what you are talking about. I found out that a friend's mother in law thought that I settled for my husband because I am overweight and couldn't get anyone else, which implies she believes that my husband is inferior for some reason and that he was my only choice because of my weight. Not true on either count. I haven't looked at that woman the same since. AND I'm definitely not lucky enough to be a size 12. That's not plus size.

Why are all the fat women bitching about this show? Oh yay! Because YOUR FAT!

Did you ever see the "plus" size contestants on that annoying Top Model show? They show up and the designers don't have close to fit them. How horrific is that? And those women are like size 12/14 - not real plus size like me or you.

I only want to say one other thing about this post. You sound put out that these women are all gorgeous - like they have some advantage over Non gorgeous plus size women. You DO realize you could be in that line up so easily, right? You have every inch as much beauty as they do.
